Your first period
Especially for girls, entering puberty marks another great life change… your first period. Although girls get their first period between 9 and 14 years old, you could get yours even at the age of 16.
Getting your first period is a very important and life changing event, as it marks the passage from childhood to adulthood. From being a girl, you become a woman!
As frightening as this perspective may be, it is a normal and significant transition for your feminine nature, as it is related with the ability of having children.
If you notice something that makes you worry (e.g. excessive hair growth, breast asymmetry or something that alarms you), it is advisable to call your doctor. Every girl’s body is different and, as a result, it reacts differently to these changes. Therefore you shouldn’t compare yourself with your girlfriends … What is happening to you may be absolutely normal, since the increase of female hormones may sometimes create some micro-problems to the development of your body.
And remember: even if the first period seems like a nightmare, it’s good to know that usually the first period is very light! So do not worry if it finds you unprepared somewhere outside!
